Food Pantry Weekly, 27May2015

Greetings Foodies! About one in four clients tonight had not come to us before. The constant influx of first-timers is not good news. It is at least one indication that the ranks of the poor has a continuing influx. I like our response; but I don’t like the ever-growing need – not in my America. Worldwide, hunger has shrunk dramatically over the past few decades. But in the land of the free – in my America – it continues to grow. I pray for those smarter than me to discover how to stem the growth of hunger here in our backyard. This week’s lectionary readings included Isaiah 6 where, in the prophet’s vision, God asks “Whom shall I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” And the prophet answers, “Here I am. Send me.”  This is our response to hunger. We are messengers. We speak through our actions. We do it every week, at the “church at the bottom of the stairs,” we answer God’s call. Here I am. Send me!  May God bless all those who serve the poor. Everyone please look at our new volunteer opportunities below, even if you are currently a food pantry volunteer. And please pray for all our clients and their families. Carl This week’s needs list for those wanting to donate food:  creamy peanut butter, canned tuna, soup. Food Pantry Weekly, 20May2015

Greetings Foodies! We all need each other. I saw this first hand a year ago following surgery that sidelined me for a while. I see it each week in the lives of those who come to the food pantry for help. And I’m seeing it currently as we are missing a couple of people who play key roles in making the food pantry work. There are lots of moving parts in this ministry, and every part is important. So to all of you doing double duty this week (and next), you are greatly appreciated! Everyone please look at our volunteer opportunities below, even (or maybe especially) if you are currently a food pantry volunteer. God bless you all for your support and please pray for all our clients and their families. Carl Needs list, for persons wanting to donate food:  creamy peanut butter, dry or canned beans, canned fruit.
