Food Pantry Weekly, 24Jun2015

It was a long day. One which had caused me to trust God. No…really trust Him. But as usual, the right people were in place, doing what needed to be done, and it all worked out. Just before we closed at 7:00 tonight, Mary Koffend registered the 722nd household of our 2014-2015 year. That’s a lot of households. Many of those households visited many times — some every week; some came just once. That’s a lot of people. And it’s a lot of meals that went better than they otherwise might have. I think of them often as I sit down to eat, praying that they remember that it is their God who feeds them. Our 2015-2016 year begins next Wednesday, July 1st, and as required by the USDA and Capital Area Food Bank of Texas, next week we begin re-registering all clients again. So if we have, say, 68 clients next week, as we did tonight, we’ll talk to each and do the intake paperwork for each. To make that possible, we have a team of 9 volunteers who will join us just to do registration. I met with them today and brought them up to speed on the paperwork and our process. I think we’re going to be just fine. Please… pray for all our clients. ____________________________ We are in need of a “new” full-size refrigerator. If you have one to donate, please contact Carl Wilson at foodpantry@covenantaustin.org. This week’s needs list for those wanting to donate food:  peanut butter (creamy), cereal, soup. To make food or monetary donations, please contact the church office at 512-346-3124. This week’s numbers: – #...

Greetings Foodies! To those of you who faithfully read these weeklies… you are my heroes. It must take a lot of patience and grace to come here every week and listen to my laundry list of needs. Bless you.  And now for this week’s list. 😉 — One of our refrigerators generates water inside until things get wet and eventually we have a puddle on the floor.  If you (a) have a full-size refrigerator in working order that you are ready to part with, or (b) know how to fix the problem, let me know! — We need empty egg cartons – dozen or half-dozen size. Please save yours and just drop them in the big Food Pantry box in the hall near the kitchen. — Please take a look at the volunteer opportunities below. And so about tonight…  I guess I’m a sucker for a crying person. When someone comes to the pantry for the first time and the world has taken it’s toll on them, to the point that they can’t talk about it with dry eyes; or when the mere fact that they have to go to a bunch of strangers and ask for food starts the tears flowing; it just breaks my heart. Some need a job. Some know they will never work again. Some have lost the special person in their life. Each person has a story. They need help. They need prayers.  Please… pray for all our clients. Food Pantry Weekly, 10June2015

Greetings Foodies! I love our volunteers, but I don’t mention our great staff often enough. Our great custodian, Celina Ochoa, makes sure the facility is spic & span and set up properly; Pam Devine, our office manager/book keeper/webmaster/communications chief/Jack-of-all-trades, what will we do without her; and of course Pastor Stella who is wonderfully hands-on and truly loves those who come to us for help. My plea for help in July (see below under Volunteer Opportunities) produced some wonderful results this week.  Just a couple more volunteers for that need and we’ll be all set! As I mentioned last week, two clients enthusiastically agreed to give on-camera testimonials about their experience with the food pantry. It happened tonight! They each spoke beautifully, simply, without notes, and seemed happy to help us. Praise God!  You will be seeing these videos soon around Covenant. Please pray for all our clients. Food Pantry Weekly, 03Jun2015

Greetings Foodies! It was an evening of firsts. With the unofficial beginning of Summer now past and temperatures in the 90’s we opened the fellowship hall at 4:00 to those already waiting. Kit was set up and did check-in there also, and Stella had cold lemonade and water and snacks set up so the first 35 or so families did not have to wait outside in the heat. Stella had some good conversation with clients, and several expressed their gratitude. All-in-all it went well, and we’ll continue this through the hot weather. Thanks so much to Kit and Stella for making this happen! Also tonight, two clients enthusiastically agreed to give me on-camera testimonials about their experience with the food pantry. Assuming they don’t get cold feet before next Wednesday, these video’s will be used to tell our congregation and friends more about what we do and how it impacts those in need. I’m excited about this! Everyone please please please look at our volunteer opportunities below, even if you are currently a food pantry volunteer. And please pray for all our clients and their families. Carl ____________________________ This week’s needs list for those wanting to donate food:  creamy peanut butter, canned tuna, soup.
