Food Pantry Weekly, 24Feb2016

Greetings Foodies! . It was a great night at the food pantry!  A calm night. No skirmishes. No upset clients. We had plenty of everything. We finished on time, lights out by 7:30. Weird. So I’ll use this space to relate what more than a few clients have told us about their experience coming to Covenant Food Pantry. Last week one client in particular told her story to a volunteer in a lengthy conversation as he helped carry food out to her car. She described how it is different at Covenant. She is treated like a friend. There’s no shame; no embarrassment; no demeaning. God honors the prayer we pray each week before we open: Help us to treat each person with dignity and respect. And then it just happens. Most of us have more than we need, and then we freely give. And we give God all the credit. . Please pray for all our clients. . Food Pantry Weekly, 17Feb2016

Greetings Foodies! . It was a great night at the food pantry!  We were blessed with the opportunity to help 80 households. Our ability to do that is by God’s grace working through so many of you – your gifts of money, food and volunteering every week, every month, every year. . I’m asking today for your prayers and consideration regarding our ability to transport food each week from Capital Area Food Bank to Covenant. Our weekly orders often exceed the capacity of a half-ton pickup and so we are faced with the decision of whether to drive multiple vehicles the 40-mile round trip or trim back our order to fit. Neither is desirable. Renting each week is expensive and owning encumbers the church with ongoing insurance and maintenance expense. Please pray for God’s guidance on this, and bring your ideas to me. And special thanks to the King, Bright and Blankenship families for holding this part of the ministry together for these many months! . Please pray for all our clients. . Food Pantry Weekly, 10Feb2016

Greetings Foodies! . It was a great night at the food pantry!  Our numbers are down the past few weeks as compared with the previous few months. A career of looking at graphs and charts makes me instinctively want all trends to be “up and to the right.” But in this world of food insecurity we really want the trends to be heading towards zero! Let’s hope this is our new normal, in spite of our almost-five-year trend of up-up-up. . It was an interesting night also. One long-time client who has many chronic life challenges arrived drunk and confused. I suppose we could have just pointed the way to the door. But instead, with the loving help of multiple volunteers, not to mention several other clients, this lost soul was talked to, reassured, prayed over, and generally loved through the evening. May God have mercy on His children. . Please pray for all our clients – and our wonderful volunteers. .
