Food Pantry Weekly, 30Mar2016

Greetings Foodies! . It was another great day at the Food Pantry!  It started out slow tonight. About 5:00 we only had about 50 clients signed in; but they kept coming, and by the end of the evening we had served 82 households.  At one point we had four clients, all needing registration, arrive all at the same time, none of whom spoke any English – three Spanish-only and one Vietnamese!  We managed just fine thanks to volunteer Ernie and a bilingual English-Vietnamese client; but it was like the UN for a while! . The main theme of my evening was, once again, watching God work. Our biggest regular donor contributed much less than normal, and two others had nothing for us at all.  The total amount donated this week was 1,000 pounds less than last week!  And yet, all 82 clients left with lots of good food. Loaves and fishes. He’s still doing it. Thanks to you all for letting me be part of this ministry. . Please pray for all our clients. . Greetings Foodies! . It was another great day at the Food Pantry!  Several of our regular Wednesday night volunteers were missing tonight and I found myself behind a table helping with food distribution. Of course, I received the expected comments such as, “Good to see you doing some work for a change!”  I’m sure I didn’t do as good a job as our incredible regulars, but I had a great time! Just another chance to interact with each client. . The past two weeks we have offered to each client a small, hand crocheted butterfly pin. Jane and her team made 300 this year! What a labor of love, and very much appreciated by recipients. There is no telling what the impact might be from a simple act of love, whether it’s handing a jug of milk, attaching an unexpected note to a food item, carrying bags out to someone’s car, or crocheting a butterfly. God can use our offering and work wonders! . Please pray for all our clients. Some are having a really difficult time. . Food Pantry Weekly, 16Mar2016

Greetings Foodies! . It was a great Spring Break week at the Food Pantry.  We had lots of volunteers and lots of food and a steady flow of clients from early check-in time through closing. The folks at Adelphi Acres Community Garden brought us 23 pounds of right-out-of-the-ground kale, broccoli, Swiss chard and other beautiful healthy greens. What a great gift to the community they provide, and I can tell they enjoy what they do.  This seems to be a consistent theme, whether it’s staff at Capital Area Food Bank or in retail stores who donate, or volunteers at Keep Austin Fed or Mary’s Way, or those at St. Louis Food Pantry or Gateway Food Pantry who share their abundance with us, the Adelphi gardeners or our own awesome volunteers and Covenant staff – all seem to really enjoy helping others. When the world is so focused on getting, giving is it’s own reward! . Please pray for all our clients. .
