Food Pantry Weekly, 23Nov2016

Greetings Foodies! . It was a great day at the Food Pantry!  Again I say, it was a great day at the Food Pantry!!  It was what we now recognize as a typical day before Thanksgiving. Volunteers bringing family members with them, lower that usual numbers of clients, and oh so much food. 3300 pounds of food from donors – 2200 just from Trader Joe’s alone. This is on top of what we receive from the Central Texas Food Bank – about 1500 pounds this week!  And it’s the season for food drives: more than 500 pounds from our own Covenant Preschool, 400+ from Williams Chiropractic, and others. The great thing about food drives is that they get so many people involved in giving. Whether adults or children, we all need to give. It seems to be a part of who we are. And it’s a tangible way for us to give thanks. . I invite you to join us in this work. Please support us financially. It takes more money to provide for the increasing numbers of clients.  And if you have never volunteered here before, come join us on Wednesday at 5:00 to see first hand what it is that keeps our volunteers coming back. . Thank you to all our supporters and volunteers, and as always, please pray for all our clients. . This week’s numbers: # of volunteers: 31! # households served: 65 # individuals served: 210 # first-timers: 15 . Other business: Financial donations to the food pantry may be made online at covenantaustin.org, or by check to Covenant UMC (“Food Pantry” on memo line). This week’s needs list for those wanting...

Greetings Foodies! . It was a great day at the Food Pantry!  It’s almost Thanksgiving and I have much to be thankful for. We had 30 volunteers participate in the food pantry ministry this week. Each week, as we “circle up” to pray about 5:30, I look at these wonderful people and all the food God has provided and I give thanks. Each week, as the Wednesday Morning Team arrives to receive deliveries, sort produce, meat, eggs and all the rest, I look at them and give thanks. And Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays when volunteers drive, load, unload, sort, check and stock many hundreds of pounds of food, every week without fail, I give thanks. This week Covenant Preschool is doing their annual food drive benefiting the food pantry. Local gardeners bring their produce, and today we’ll receive donations from a local business. Thanks, thanks and Thanks! And not a week goes by without many, many people expressing their thanks to us for helping them. What an awesome thing God is doing here at Covenant! . I invite you to join us in this work. Please support us financially. It takes more money to provide for the increasing numbers of clients.  And if you have never volunteered here before, come join us on Wednesday at 5:00 to see first hand what it is that keeps our volunteers coming back. . Food Pantry Weekly, 09Nov2016

Greetings Foodies! . It was a great day at the Food Pantry!  We wonder about our “regulars” when we don’t see them, those with whom we have talked and prayed for months or years. Are they to the point where they can’t even get to the food pantry? Have things improved for them and they don’t need to come? We fear the worst, hope for the best. Last night one of these came right at closing time, as was always her habit. As usual she was unhurried, smiling, talkative, positive, giving praise to God no matter what. Some of you reading this probably now recognize her. She didn’t come for food this night, but to bring some donations and to help us clean up…and to talk and give thanks. Praise God! . I invite you to join us in this work. Support us financially. If you have never volunteered here before, come join us on Wednesday at 5:00 to see first hand what it is that keeps our volunteers coming back.  And if you are interested in exploring a leadership position in the Food Pantry, please contact me or Pastor Stella. . Thank you to all our supporters and volunteers, and as always, please pray for all our clients. . This week’s numbers: # of volunteers: 23 # households served: 81 # individuals served: 258 # first-timers: 09 . Other business: Financial donations to the food pantry may be made online at covenantaustin.org, or by check to Covenant UMC (“Food Pantry” on memo line). This week’s needs list for those wanting to donate shelf-stable items: soup baby food toiletries – toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, shampoo, toilet paper, baby items, etc. We...
