Food Pantry Weekly Update, 30Aug2017

Greetings my fellow foodies! . “Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.”  Romans 15:7 . I am going to use applicable scripture verses to describe what went on at the Food Pantry on any given night. I picked the one above because it was a difficult night in the sense that one of our clients was being especially exasperating and was creating an unhealthy frustration level in several of the volunteers including myself. I believe that every one of our volunteers is 100% committed to serving and welcoming others for no other reason than the “glory of God” but we were called out for not being that way and I had to step in and defend some our volunteers. Plus, it seemed to be a more chaotic atmosphere than the usual craziness. Having said that, we persevered and finished the work although slightly over time because several clients showed at the last minute. . I absolutely applaud and support the wonderful work our volunteers do on a weekly basis. Much of the behind the scenes work that goes on before Wednesday night goes unnoticed for the most part even by those of us who are regulars. THANK YOU!!! . The kitchen was busy serving grilled cheese sandwiches cooked up by Pastor Stella with the help of the outstanding team of her kids, Emory and Wyatt! Wyatt also helped out with the Tuesday pickup from CTFB! Thanks, Wyatt, we love those strong young backs! . The next few weeks will test us even more as we will be missing four key members: Carl,...

Food Pantry Weekly, 23Aug2017

“Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” This greeting is found in some form at the opening of all of Paul’s epistles so I wanted to start the weekly update with this! . It was another great night at the Food Pantry. I am amazed by how well oiled a machine our Food Pantry has become. This was our first night without our fearless leader and things seemed to roll right along without too many hitches! The volunteers came ready to do their assignments with the usual enthusiasm and preparedness! Speaking of volunteers, we had a mother with two teenage boys who wanted to come help to as they needed to work on some scout community service. We put those boys to work, pushing wheelchairs, helping clients to their cars and doing general lifting. Thanks guys and Mom too! We need more youth involvement! . Over and over again we hear from the clients that we run one of the best food pantries in the area and apparently many others think so too including CTFB. As you may already know, we are a “PLATINUM” food pantry. Many perks may come with this that may be answers to our prayers in the very near future especially picking up food! God is good! . Don’t forget to look over the needs list below including the green paper kind! . Peace be with you! . Currently we have key volunteer positions open that must be filled in the near term. Join our team! Or step up your current involvement!  See below under What do we need, and...

Food Pantry Weekly, 16Aug2017

Greetings Foodies! . It was a great day at the Food Pantry!  We had great news this week from the Central Texas Food Bank.  They have a methodology of evaluating and comparing partner agencies with defined metrics such as total food volume, nutritional content of food, frequency of operation and frequency of access to clients, engagement in SNAP outreach, and link to social services such as health and economic opportunity. As result, each of CTFB’s 246 partner agencies were placed in one of five levels: Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Community Partner. Covenant Food Pantry is one of just ten Platinum Level Partner Agencies!  There are a number of benefits to Platinum Level status, and I’ll discuss those more in future Weekly reports.  But for now, congratulations to you ― the entire team of volunteers and supporters on this achievement. . As a personal note, many thanks to Bob W, Betsy B, Vickie M and Linda E for covering for me while I’m traveling the next few weeks. What a team!!! . Currently we have key volunteer positions open that must be filled in the near term. Join our team! Or step up your current involvement!  See below under What do we need, and if you have questions or interest in joining us please reply to this email or contact Colleen M or Pastor Stella. . Thank you to all our supporters and volunteers, and as always, please pray for all our clients. . This week’s numbers: # households served: 102 # individuals served: 27 # first-timers: 6 # of volunteers: 27 . Food Pantry Weekly, 09Aug2017

Greetings Foodies! . It was a great day at the Food Pantry!  It was the busiest we’ve been in several months, serving 109 households. But the great thing is, our new early start process allowed us to handle everyone with ease. In fact, this has worked so well that our board decided to make it permanent, and we are adjusting our hours accordingly. This is good since it means our Wednesday night volunteers can get home 30 minutes earlier!  Our official times are now 4:30-6:30, with doors opening and check-in starting at 4:00. . Our volunteers and contributors make Covenant Food Pantry possible. Many of you have supported us for years and in so doing have blessed thousands in need. Currently we have key volunteer positions open that must be filled in the near term. Please see below under What do we need, and if you have questions or interest in joining us please reply to this email or contact Colleen Meyer or Pastor Stella. . Thank you to all our supporters and volunteers, and as always, please pray for all our clients. . This week’s numbers: # households served: 109 # individuals served: 286 # first-timers: 22 # of volunteers: 29  . What do we need: Needs list for those wanting to donate items: toiletries – toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, shampoo (including the free hotel size), toilet paper, feminine products, etc. baby food, diapers, other baby items reusable shopping bags (no paper bags please.) Financial giving is down as is typical during summer months, but our expenses continue as usual. Food Pantry Weekly, 02Aug2017

Greetings Foodies! . It was a great day at the Food Pantry!  Another small group last night – 83 households – and we can’t blame the weather this time (coolest day in at least a month)! . There are lots of behind-the-scenes preparations and planning going on these days at the food pantry. Vacation taking is always a challenge for those leaving as well as those “left behind” to ensure all bases are covered. Also, our Advisory Board will be meeting next week to consider several issues that impact our future, so please pray for this group and its deliberations. Help us, individually and collectively, to trust God to lead us in the right direction! . If you have never volunteered at the food pantry before, come join us around 4:30 or 5:00 on Wednesday to see first hand what keeps our volunteers coming back. . Thank you to all our supporters and volunteers, and as always, please pray for all our clients.  .
