Food Weekly Pantry, 28Mar2018

Greetings Fellow Foodies! This week’s numbers:  # households served: 95  # individuals served: 286  # first-timers: 14  # of volunteers: 30 Today as I write this, it is Good Friday! I was listening to the radio on my way into work today and they were playing a sermon by S.M. Lockridge: “It’s Friday but Sunday’s Coming”. That was awesome stuff and I highly recommend a look! Here’s a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cikenKl92Og It got me to thinking about all our clients who come for food assistance and are down on their luck. “It’s Friday but Sunday’s Coming” I think about all the people who are dealing with health issues or financial difficulties or family problems. “It’s Friday but Sunday’s Coming” This life is so temporary and we so try to complicate it that we often forget what is really important. The Gospel message is quite simple, “Love God first and then love others!” Wednesday evenings are a great example of that as we love others in both tangible and spiritual ways. It was another great night at the Food Pantry. Remember It’s only Friday but Sunday’s Coming! May the peace of Christ overcome all that is in your life this Easter. Blessings and peace to all! Please see the note below about Tuesday Morning. We have a critical need for a helper or two.  Join our team! Or step up your current involvement!  See below under What do we need, and if you have questions or interest in joining us please reply to this email or contact Bob Weeks, Ernie Cruz or Pastor Stella.  Thank You  to all our supporters and volunteers, and as always, please pray for...

Greetings Fellow Foodies! Communication experts tell us that only a fraction of what we communicate is through the words we say. We communicate through our attitudes, actions, facial expressions, body posture, even the tone and emphasis on the words we say. When we serve God through our actions at the Food Pantry, we are representing Jesus to those around us including fellow volunteers. Although this weekly update is later than usual and I as I sit here composing this, it is Palm Sunday. I am contemplating the events of that triumphal entry into Jerusalem by Jesus riding a donkey only to be followed shortly by his crucifixion and then resurrection! Jesus’ short life here on earth changed the world by the way he loved and treated others not just his words but mostly his actions! This is why we come and serve our fellow sojourners on this planet. We are really not much different than those who come each week. We are all in need of something but mostly what we need is relationship and for the short 3 hours on Wednesday evening, relationship is in full abundance!    This was another great week at the food pantry.    Thank you all for your service, God is pleased! This week’s numbers: · # households served: 102 · # individuals served: 323 · # first-timers: 11 · # of volunteers: 31 Blessings and peace to all! Please see the note below about Tuesday Morning. Greetings Fellow Foodies! This week’s numbers:  # households served: 109  # individuals served: 316  # first-timers: 9  # of volunteers: 26 Whew!! It was a hectic night as several of our regular volunteers were gone however two of our newest stepped up and filled a lot of the gap. I was busy calling names, a job I haven’t done in several months. It is rewarding and frustrating at the same time. I even had two clients ask if they could volunteer but the rule is that if you are a client, you can’t be a volunteer at the same time. They said they would come back next week as strictly a volunteer. I’d much rather have too many volunteers than not enough! We could really use volunteers to come help either at Wednesday morning setup or Wednesday evenings from 4pm to 7pm. When we share the burden, it promotes team work and allows more interaction with clients. While we started this to help feed the hungry, it quickly became apparent that building relationships is even more important. That’s the economy of God!! Please continue to pray for our clients and volunteers. If you cannot physically help, praying is just as good. The needs of the clients is vast and frankly, I cannot even fathom the living conditions many find themselves. Consider volunteering and continually pray. Grace and peace to all! Please see the note below about Tuesday Morning. We have a critical need for a helper or two.  Join our team! Or step up your current involvement!  See below under What do we need, and if you have questions or interest in joining us...

Greetings Fellow Foodies! This week’s numbers:  # households served: 92  # individuals served: 268  # first-timers: 12  # of volunteers: 31 It was another beautiful evening to have the food pantry. I had the pleasure of giving a tour of the food pantry to a girl scout troop. Apparently I missed my calling as a tour guide but the pride I feel about our food pantry makes it easy to promote. The girls were delightful and a couple of them with their Moms even stayed and volunteered. Speaking of volunteers, our plea for more volunteers was certainly answered plus we are excited about the possibility of having our order from the food bank delivered. More blessings from God! It was a great night and everything went relatively smooth without any crazy stories. Between that, a smaller than average crowd and the abundance of volunteers, it made for what seemed like a quick evening. As promised, I want to focus on the Free Store. The Free Store is an official ministry of the Austin district of the United Methodist Church. It used to have an actual store in East Austin but for a variety of reasons, they had to relocate to Memorial UMC on Berkman Rd. Since we were getting more donations than they could accommodate and with the Food Pantry snack supper is full gear in the Fellowship, Rita Weeks had the idea to just open a satellite store at Covenant during Food Pantry hours. It has been a great success and Rita and her dedicated team are doing a tremendous job running that portion of our ministry. If you haven’t had...

Greetings Fellow Foodies! This week’s numbers:  # households served: 100  # individuals served: 353  # first-timers: 10  # of volunteers: 31 What a difference a week can make concerning the weather. It’s that time of year when we get some huge swings. Last week cold and rainy, this week very warm and dry. I will take the latter! It was another fast evening despite the numbers. Our system of allowing the more physically challenged clients to go early has definitely sped up the entire process. Having said that though, this is a plea for those on this email list who haven’t volunteered in a while. WE NEED YOU! Please consider filling in for the various opportunities listed below but especially we need some extra hands on Wednesday mornings and evenings. Along those same lines, next week I will be giving a tour of the Food Pantry to a troop of Girl Scouts who want to somehow get involved and another Mom has a son who needs some community points for his school. He will be there next Wednesday! Since my wife is out of town and she heads the Free Store portion of our Food Pantry, I will hold off talking it until next week! Blessings and peace to all and again please consider lending a helping hand! Please see the note below about Tuesday Morning. We have a critical need for a helper or two.  Join our team! Or step up your current involvement!  See below under What do we need, and if you have questions or interest in joining us please reply to this email or contact Colleen Meyer or Pastor Stella.  Thank...
