Food Pantry Weekly, 25Apr2018

Greetings Fellow Foodies! This week’s numbers:  # households served: 94  # individuals served: 288  # first-timers: 5  # of volunteers: 31 It was another good night at the Food Pantry although it was one of only a handful of Wednesdays where we encountered some rainy weather. Do you realize that this coming Wednesday, May 2nd, the Food Pantry will be celebrating its 7th anniversary! Time flies when you are having a good time. Last year we celebrated by having a food truck from Barilla come and cook us all a pasta dinner! So many memories over the past 7 years! In it all, God has truly blessed this ministry.   I counted the number of names to whom this weekly update goes out. It’s 98! I know many on the list have either requested to be kept abreast of the ministry operations or you may have volunteered over the course of its seven year run and either moved away or are no longer able to help. I know many on this list give monetary donations which is just as important but here’s the deal, we have many volunteer needs other than just Wednesday nights although we desperately need a registration coordinator. We also need help picking up food as we are looking into two more food sources, Sprouts and El Milagro. Would you either please consider giving a couple of hours a week to help or maybe this little network could expand to others who are looking for a way to serve. We do a wonderful service for our community but I personally would not like to start hearing the term –...

Greetings Fellow Foodies! This week’s numbers:          # households served: 91          # individuals served: 272          # first-timers: 7          # of volunteers: 26 A young man came to the Food Pantry Wednesday night with a bag of food he wanted donate. Not all that unusual except this man had been a client of the Food Pantry previously and said that he had found a good job and just wanted to show his appreciation for all he had received by giving back! Hallelujah! Hearing these kind of stories validates all that we are trying to accomplish. I’ve often countered the argument that we need to grow the food pantry with the point that the food pantry needs to disappear because we’ve been able to help someone like this young man get back on his feet. The food pantry seemingly grows itself and we are merely instruments in sustaining it, used by God. It was another great night and thanks for all you give back in volunteering! It does make a difference! Blessings, grace and peace! Please see the note below about Tuesday Morning. We have a critical need for a helper or two.  Join our team! Or step up your current involvement!  See below under What do we need, and if you have questions or interest in joining us please reply to this email or contact Bob Weeks, Ernie Cruz or Pastor Stella.  Thank You  to all our supporters and volunteers, and as always, please pray for all our clients. What do we need:  Needs list for those wanting to donate items: o   toiletries – toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, shampoo (including the free hotel size), toilet paper, feminine products, etc. o   baby food, diapers, other baby items...

Greetings Fellow Foodies! This week’s numbers:          # households served: 117          # individuals served: 323          # first-timers: 9          # of volunteers: 31 It was an extremely busy but good night at the Food Pantry last Wednesday night as you can see by the numbers. And as usual, we were fretting that we weren’t going to have enough volunteers as several of our “regulars” could not come for a variety of reasons. However, God provided yet again. We had a young man who is taking a community religious outreach class at Baylor University and wanted to come experience our ministry operation . We also had five young ladies from Murchison Middle School who needed some volunteer hours so as it turned out, we had ample help! “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” 1 Corinthians 12:26 One of the wonderful things that happens on Wednesday evenings, is that we have developed many new friendships with our clients. We wonder why one didn’t show up on any given week. We hear their stories about the hardships faced and we rejoice when we hear good news or just see a picture of somebody’s grandchild. We see the joy on a face when they receive some unexpected gift such as a bag of dog food for their pet. I believe, that many are transported out of their regular existences and experience the love of others that they may not get any other time of the week. It’s what keeps the clients and volunteers coming back week after week. God continues to bless and surprise with this ministry! If you...

Greetings Fellow Foodies! This week’s numbers:        # households served: 103        # individuals served: 279        # first-timers: 5        # of volunteers: 26 One of the great things about my role at the Food Pantry is that I get to do a lot of running around from getting the next page of clients to helping carry out bags. It gives me the opportunity to observe all that goes on in its’ entirety. One of our clients needed a boost to start their vehicle and a volunteer quickly jumped on that task. One of our volunteers realized that one of our clients’ grandchild who regularly comes, was a bright and inquisitive child who loved to read. After a conversation with the child, this volunteer wants to give her a set of books she likes! I’ve watched many volunteers interact personally with the clients just to lend an ear. I’m pretty sure this goes on many more times than anyone realizes and it is what makes our Food Pantry so special. I had the privilege Thursday of being part of team to present a grant proposal to the Methodist district board. I am hoping that the board recognized our enthusiasm for wanting to expand our services beyond just the food! This is where we are and will truly make a difference in people’s lives! As I’ve said before, food is merely our vehicle to share God’s love with a hurting world. Blessings and peace to all! Please see the note below about Tuesday Morning. We have a critical need for a helper or two.  Join our team! Or step up your current involvement!  See below under What do we need, and...
