Food Pantry Weekly, 26Sept2018

Greetings Fellow Foodies! This week’s numbers: · # households served: 122 · # individuals served: 384 · # first-timers: 7 · # of volunteers: 30  Let us not become weary in doing good. -Galatians 6:9 . As you can see, our numbers started creeping back up again from the last few weeks. The scripture verse chosen describes the feeling of such a overwhelming ministry that our food pantry has grown into! Sometimes it feels exhilarating and sometimes it is exhausting. Most of the time, it is both! Despite being frustrated from time to time by some clients, most are so appreciative of the way we treat them, with dignity and many have become friends. We do our best to help our brothers and sisters in need. Jesus calls us to nothing less! It was another tremendous night at OUR Food Pantry! Peace and blessings to all! If you are looking for something to donate besides food, we need more egg cartons, diapers and baby wipes! Please take a moment to reread all the opportunities below to help this ministry. WE NEED YOU!! Come join our team! Or step up your current involvement! See below under What do we need, and if you have questions or interest in joining us please reply to this email or contact Bob Weeks, Nancy Bertolino or Pastor Stella. Thank You to all our supporters and volunteers, and as always, please pray for all our clients. What do we need: • Needs list for those wanting to donate items: • toiletries – toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, shampoo (including the free hotel size), toilet paper, feminine products, etc....

Greetings Fellow Foodies! This week’s numbers: · # households served: 97 · # individuals served: 327 · # first-timers: 9 · # of volunteers: 31 Mark 6:37-44  37 But he answered, “You give them something to eat.” They said to him, “That would take more than half a year’s wages[a]! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?” 38 “How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.” When they found out, they said, “Five—and two fish.” 39 Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties.41 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all.42 They all ate and were satisfied, 43 and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. 44 The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand. I have used the above scripture before to describe how the food pantry got started. Jesus first told his disciples, “You give them something to eat.” That’s how it began, we started with our meager supplies and handed out food. Jesus took that effort and multiplied that into what the food pantry is today. This year again we will have helped thousands of people. Never in my wildest imagination could have I conceived of what we’ve become. Jesus took those few bags of groceries we handed out the first few weeks, gave thanks, then gave...

Greetings Fellow Foodies! This week’s numbers: · # households served: 110 · # individuals served: 362 · # first-timers: 13 · # of volunteers: 30 Have you ever wondered if what we are doing is making a difference? Have you ever questioned your own motivation concerning your involvement with the food pantry? These questions seem to drift into my thought process from time to time however it would seem that when that occurs at least for me, then it becomes about me! This ministry is not about me or you. The success and expansion of this ministry is about God and his love for his children. That includes you and everybody else, whether you are a volunteer or a client. One of my devotionals this week reminded me of this great truth, “The power of God sovereignly works miracles in response to the faith of a community moving in love.”  But just in case you don’t believe this, I want to share a note we received from one of our regular clients this week. To my good friends of Covenant UMC,   I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for your kindness and generosity. I first came to ya’ll late last year because my doctor told me I needed to gain some weight after a long illness. In that time, not only have I slowly begun to gain weight but I have come to know most of ya’ll. My faith in humanity and Christ has been restored. Thank you all for being so very kind to me. I keep you all in my heart.   Your ever...

Greetings Fellow Foodies! This week’s numbers: · # households served: 116 · # individuals served: 387 · # first-timers: 15 · # of volunteers: 38 Philippians 3:14 (NIV) “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”   Week after week, we put our collective efforts together and pull off another successful night at our Food Pantry. I am continually amazed at the dedication of a relatively small group or large depending on your perspective, of volunteers that weekly help between 350 and 500 people get some basic life necessities. This includes human interaction with people who we probably wouldn’t ordinarily associate. It can only be a God thing. And even when physical exhaustion and mental exasperation creep in, we continue to press forward! On another note, we had a film crew from NBC there Tuesday and Wednesday. They are doing a documentary on child poverty for the Red Nose project and we will be a small part of that! Stay tuned for further details concerning the release of the video.  It was another tremendous night at OUR Food Pantry! Peace and blessings to all! If you are looking for something to donate besides food, we could sure use baby diapers and wipes! Thank You to all...

Greetings Fellow Foodies! This week’s numbers: · # households served: 119 · # individuals served: 409 · # first-timers: 17 · # of volunteers: 34  Mark 4:1-8 Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge. 2 He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said: 3 “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.” I would first like to take this opportunity to thank Ernie and Marie Cruz for their many years of faithful service to our Food Pantry. Ernie, especially, stepped up in a leadership role when we needed it the most. This couple has been a witness to others, both clients and volunteers alike to the power of the Holy Spirit at work. You guys will be greatly missed but because of...
