Attention all women! Look what is coming to Covenant in February!!
Anointed, Transformed, Redeemed: A Study of David
Come and explore the life of David. David was anointed, but he made mistakes. And though he was redeemed—still he grappled with the choices he made. But he was transformed—and we can be, too. Be prepared to laugh, cry, and learn how to love God with 3 inspiring teachers: Beth Moore, Priscilla Shirer, and Kay
Arthur.
Join us in study as we explore a man after God’s own heart whose life reads much like a soap opera, tragedy, and fantastic redemption. There will never be a dull moment as we explore God’s word to us!
Dates: February 4 – March 11, 2010
Time: 10:00am

The Southwest Texas Conference of the UMC sponsors a walk almost every weekend of the year, and the Greater Austin 4th Day Group sponsors four walks per year—2 men’s walks and 2 women’s walks. Men and Women attend the weekends separately. Upcoming Austin Areas walks are:
2010 Austin Sponsored Walks
Men’s Walk #1541 February 11 - 14, HLCC
Women’s Walk #1556 April 22 – 25, HLCC
Men’s Walk #1585 October 7 - 10, HLCC
Women’s Walk #1599 November 18 - 21, HLCC
Chrysalis is the youth version of the Walk to Emmaus for ages 15 – 18. College-age young adults ages 18 – 24 attend a Chrysalis Journey.
Covenant UMC has 150+ members who have attended a Walk to Emmaus, a Chrysalis Flight, or a Chrysalis Journey and who participate in the Greater Austin 4th Day Group activities. Each of them would be happy to talk with you about the Walk to Emmaus.
If you would like to attend a Walk to Emmaus, or if you have questions about the walk, please contact Roxie Greenway at 512-335-4604 or email Roxie at Roxieg@austin.rr.com

STEPHEN MINISTRY |
 |
|
 |
|
STEPHEN MINISTRY
A “caring ministry explosion” where many instead of a few are offering God’s love and care in intentional, systematic ways. It is a complete system of training and organizing lay persons for caring ministry in and around our congregation to bring you the best distinctive Christian care possible.
|
 |
|
|
|
Stephen Ministry enables our entire congregation to grow as the warm, loving and nurturing community it is – where people are cherished and cared for in Jesus Christ. It enhances our outreach by identifying Covenant UMC to our members and to the community as a place where all people’s needs are taken seriously.
STEPHEN MINISTERS ARE COMMITTED CHRISTIAN PEOPLE WHO...
- express God’s care through their lives to others
- receive 50 hours of initial training in caring ministry skills and concepts
- are commissioned as Stephen Ministers after completing their initial training
- visit another person regularly and dependably, offering Christian support and care
- participate in regular support and supervision under the guidance of trained Stephen Leaders
- are committed to preserving the confidential nature of the caring relationship
- serve for at least two years
- receive continuing education and skill building throughout their years of service
Anyone interested in training to better meet the needs of those in crisis and who are hurting may call Jeanne or Frank Heffern, 260-9585 fheffern@yahoo.com
Your Stephen Ministers work together with your pastor, Rev. Val Sansing, to reach more people who are hurting than your pastor can ever reach alone. Stephen Ministry never replaces pastoral care; it multiplies it! As a result, fewer people slip through the cracks!

HOSPITAL VISITATION
If you or someone you know is going in the hospital, PLEASE call the church office and let us know so that someone from our Hospital Visitation Team can come by and say ‘hello’ and offer a prayer.
If you are interested in serving on the Hospital Visitation Team we need you.
|
|
|
|
Most hospitals will not call us to tell us if you are there. When we know you are going to the hospital in advance, a member of the Hospital Visitation Team can be there for you before, during and after surgery. What can the one who is hospitalized expect from this type of visit? The presence of someone who really cares and will listen you with unconditional acceptance and confidentiality.
HOSPITAL VISITATION
Caring for people in times of scheduled and/or emergency hospitalization is at the very heart of a congregation's life. Here at Covenant we have a Hopital Visitation Team that is dedicated to briding this need.
Hopitalization is more than physical illness itself. Being hospitalized can affect all phases of a person's life -- relations with one's family, personal self-esteem, job responsiblities, dealing with insured and/or uncovered uninsured costs as well as temporary or permanent dependency and at the core of it all, faith in God, to name a few examples of how hospitalization impacts life. Also, hospitalization usually is not only a crisis for the person who is in the hospital, but also a potential crisis area for the family and friends of the person who is in need of medical attention.
If you have a heart for those going through the crisis, stress and fear of hospitlizations, we have a position for you on this team. We need dedicated individuals such as you to help Covenant provide visitation to church members, visitors and our friends who are hospitalized.

HOMEBOUND COMMUNION
HOMEBOUND COMMUNION –2ND Sundays
Covenant UMC always offers full Communion to all who come to Christ’s Table the first Sunday of each month.
|
|
|
|
Those who desire communion but are physically unable to come to church to receive the elements may receive communion on Second Sundays from a Steward from Covenant’s Outbound Communion Team. Just call the church office at covenantumc@covenantaustin.org or 512/346-3124 before the second Sunday of any month and request it. You do not need to be homebound, sick, shut-in or hospitalized to have communion delivered to you. If you missed Communion Sunday and cannot make the Altar Rail Communion Service set for the third Sunday of each month, you may request Communion brought to you instead. Our Outbound Communion Stewards will be delighted to serve you no matter the circumstances.

United Methodist Men
The United Methodist Men’s group meets for breakfast the third Saturday of each month for breakfast, a short devotional and to plan projects and activities. Projects relate to areas of service to the church and the community, designed to give men an opportunity to relate to each other in ways that might offer encouragement and support.
Several times a year outreach and missions are planned, plus attending the yearly gathering of all UMM groups in the Southwest Texas area. Usually the group organizes to attend Promise Keepers together as a body.
