We’re blessed to have children worship and play with us, and we recognize that they are called to work for God’s kingdom in their own special ways. Therefore, we seek to nurture their spiritual formation at each stage of their development as we involve them in worship, build their understanding, and support families.
Children in Worship
Children of all ages are always welcome in our worship services. During all three services you can find packets with child-friendly materials for pew art and quiet work. Ask an usher to help you find where they’re located in the Sanctuary.
During the 9:00a.m. and the 11:15 a.m. services, the children are invited to come forward for a “Time with Young Disciples” to learn the Sunday’s message in a fun and accessible way. At the 9:00a.m. service, kids aged 4 to 6 years old are invited to Children’s Church to continue worship in their special way.
Children may serve as acolytes beginning in the third grade. Acolytes assist in worship by lighting and extinguishing the candles, taking up the offering, and assisting with communion. Children wishing to serve are trained and mentored.
Infants and Toddlers
Children are always welcome in our worship services. However, parents often need some options. Our paid staff offers loving childcare for children 0-4 years during our worship services on Sunday mornings and during special services. This nursery is located down the hallway from the church kitchen.
A soundproof room at the back of the sanctuary, known as the Cry Room, is designated as a retreat for parents with small children during the worship services. The sound system and large windows allow parents to continue to enjoy the service while children are less restricted. Both men’s and women’s restrooms across from the sanctuary are equipped with diaper changing stations.
Sunday School at Covenant UMC is a warm, educational environment for children to learn Biblical stories and values, and to grow in faith and love. All Sunday School classes are taught by two adults who prepare lessons through our curriculum, Spark: Activate Faith and include games, crafts and Bible verse memorization. For more information on Sunday School, please contact Emma Lake, Director of Children’s Ministries at firstname.lastname@example.org.
