VBS Participant FAQ

We are so happy that you will be joining us for VBS. If you have questions, please look at the following list. If you do not see the answer to your questions, please email karensuewagner@sbcglobal.net with your question. This will help us to improve the FAQ page for all participants.

  1. Who can attend VBS?
    • Preschool children age 4 (before 9/1/2017) and 5 are welcome to attend.
    • Grade school children who complete Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade this spring, are welcome to attend.
  2. How old does my child have to be to attend VBS?
    • We are accepting children age 4 before 9/1/2017 and older who are potty trained.
  3. What does it cost to attend VBS?
    • Nothing! We want everyone to be able to attend, so Covenant UMC takes care of the cost.
  4. When does VBS actually start each morning?
    • Check-in on Monday is from 8:30 – 9:00 am. During this time, each child will sign-in and receive a t-shirt. You will then go to the church sanctuary and meet their Class leader. You should go with your child to the sanctuary and verify the pickup list and emergency contact list are correct with the leader.
    • At this time there are no openings in VBS so we will not be registering any children on Monday morning.
    • Check-in on Tuesday through Friday will be from 8:45 – 9:00 am. You should escort your child(ren) to the sanctuary and sign him/her in with the Class leader.
    • Please do not bring your child earlier than the check-in time. We are preparing for VBS and do not have the resources to watch your child.
  5. Where do I drop off my child?
    • Please park and walk your child to the entrance at the circle drop off and then into the church sanctuary. You will need to sign them in each morning with the Class leader.
    • In order to ensure safety, the circle drop off will be closed to vehicles.
  6. Where do I pick up my child?
    • Please pick up your child in the sanctuary at 12:05 pm. Each child will remain with his or her Class until you, or another adult you have designated, sign him or her out with the Class leader. Please do not encourage your child to leave their group before signing him/her out.
  7. Are there alternate snacks if my child has food allergies?
    • If your child has a food allergy, please let the check-in person know on the first day you arrive. We will verify that we have the correct information in the kitchen.
    • If you want to bring the snack for your child please mention this in the application and email us so that we can make preparations for storage.
    • If you need a list of the snacks for the week, please contact us after June 10th and we will provide a list to you by email.
  8. Is my child automatically enrolled in VBS when I complete the registration?
    • Children in each age group (4s/5s, and elementary) are enrolled on a first come, first served basis. If an age group fills up, no more children will be enrolled even though it may have been possible to complete the registration.
    • You will be notified by email if we are unable to enroll your child.
  9. Is nursery care provided during VBS?
    • Nursery care is available for children (ages 0-3) of volunteers who work during the VBS sessions. Nursery attendees must be registered ahead of time to ensure we have enough caregivers each day. You may register your child for the nursery at the same time you are registering as a volunteer.  Your child will be enrolled in the nursery when your volunteer position is assigned.
  10. What happens if I have to pick up my child early or drop him/her off late?
    • Come to the kitchen in the fellowship hall. One of the volunteers will go get your child or take your child to their group.
  11. Can I help?
    • Of course! We welcome parents who are willing to stay and help out during VBS. You will need to register as a volunteer and fill out a background check form by June 8th.
    • For more information, contact Emma Lake Boydston, Director of Children’s Ministries at elake.covenant@gmail.com
  12. What if my child cannot be at VBS every day?
    • If you find out that your child will be absent, you need to send that information to karensuewagner@sbcglobal.net. The church office will not be able to take your information.
    • If your child’s age group is full and if we do not have any note regarding your absence at check in on the first day and if a child in their age group wants to register on the first day of VBS, we will enroll another child in his/her place.
