Planted in the heart of the Live Music Capital of the World and stemming from the rich musical tradition of Methodism, Covenant is a church with a heart for music. Our music program includes a wide range of genres and musical styles from classical to contemporary. We enjoy different worship styles and incorporate music accordingly. On any given Sunday, you might just hear Appalachian folk music, Taize hymns, Celtic melodies, or African rhythms. Covenant’s popular choir cantatas at Christmas and Easter include full orchestration and drama and the Hanging of the Greens service is not to be missed.
The Sanctuary Choir
The Sanctuary Choir is our adult choir program. It is a talented, caring, and dedicated group of people who love to serve God with music. The full choir sings regularly for the 11:15 am worship service, with a summer hiatus from late June to early August when smaller ensembles lead music. The Sanctuary Choir is currently being directed by our interim director Chrissy Williams and accompanied by Steve Wottrich.
Covenant UMC’s music program is very blessed as we have many organizations of musicians who work with us. The Austin Civic Wind Ensemble uses the church as their regular practice and performance facility and offers their musicians for our services quite often. Some other organizations that participate in our cantatas and worship services are Covenant Strings and Austin Symphonic Band.
The choir rehearses on Wednesday nights from 7:30-9:00 pm. Contact Chrissy Williams at firstname.lastname@example.org for information about this music program.
Appalachian Winter by Joseph Martin
The 9am service features vocal solos & harmonies, along with acoustic guitar, and mandolin, as well as piano, bass guitar and drums. For special occasions, we sometimes add saxophone, keyboards, percussion, cello, ukelele and double bass. The Praise Band rehearses on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30. Contact Matt Cardona at email@example.com for information about the music program.
Joyful Noise Handbell Choir
The most recent addition to our Music Ministry is our Handbell Choir. This wonderful group has been “ringing” and adding a joyful noise to our worship for three years. They rehearse on Tuesdays 7:00-8:30 pm and play approximately once a month. If you would like to join, no experience is necessary although music reading does help. Contact Cathy Purdy at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
