The Sanctuary Choir
The Music Ministry at Covenant UMC has always been an extremely vital element of our ministries. The Sanctuary Choir is our adult choir program. It is a talented, caring, and dedicated group of people who love to serve God with music. We do at least three large presentations a year and sing regularly for the 11:15am worship service. The choir ensembles and soloists sing for 8:00 communion worship and do special music pieces for both services. The Sanctuary Choir is directed by Kathy Smallwood and accompanied by Steve Wottrich.
Our Music Ministries include people with varied musical backgrounds and skills. All are welcome, no auditions required. Just come with a desire to “Make a Joyful Noise to the Lord!”
Covenant UMC’s music program is very blessed as we have many organizations of musicians that work with us. We have quite a few instrumentalists that are members of our church and are generous with their talent and time. The Austin Civic Wind Ensemble holds their practices at our facility, play for our services quite often, and give wonderful concerts several times a year. Some other organizations that participate in our cantatas and worship services are Covenant Strings and Austin Symphonic Band.
Covenant Praise Band
Our contemporary worship service here at Covenant UMC is at 9am on Sunday mornings, and is a vital part of all the worship we do. That’s because that’s what worship is…something we DO!
The Covenant Praise Band has a great “Celtic Praise” style, featuring beautiful vocal solos & harmonies, along with acoustic guitar, ukulele, and mandolin, as well as piano, bass guitar and drums. For special occasions, we sometimes add saxophone, keyboards, percussion, cello and double bass.
If you have a passion for contemporary worship, we are always open to giving people the opportunity to use their musical gifts and talents for God’s glory! Just contact Matt Cardona for an audition at email@example.com. Practices are Tuesday evenings from 6-7:30pm, and the band warms up from 8:00-8:45am on Sunday mornings before the Praise Service at 9:00am.
