Food Pantry Weekly, 01Apr2015

Greetings Foodies!

We had a much lighter-than-usual night tonight.  We always suspect that a light first Wednesday of a new month is due to “food stamp” replenishment, but history doesn’t bear that out, so who knows. But it was a nice night – mild temperatures and the forecast rain went somewhere else, so our clients didn’t have to deal with that. It seems that every week has something special. Tonight, Emma, our Director of Children’s Ministries, brought many Easter baskets, all lovingly created by the children’s classes. Each contained not just the usual Easter basket goodies, but extras such as socks, tooth brushes and really beautiful handmade cards. I saw lots of little smiling faces! She also brought bunny ears and silly flower head thingies for us to wear. Everyone laughed at us and we had a great time. Thanks so much Emma!

Check out our volunteer opportunities below, and pray for all our clients. See you in church Sunday!

Volunteer opportunities

(1) Pick up bread and other bakery items at HEB on Far West Blvd, anytime between 4AM and 11:00AM on Wednesdays, then take to the Food Pantry. The items are not heavy, but there are a lot of them, anywhere from 100 to 300 pounds total. It is a great job to share with a friend!

(2) Work with another experienced volunteer to pick up food at Capital Area Food Bank on Tuesdays at 11:00AM and take to Food Pantry. Total time from Covenant area will be about 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM. This job requires the ability to lift up to 30 lbs and load these items into a vehicle, then unload into the Food Pantry.

(3) Recently, we’ve had more volunteers than needed on Wednesday evenings, so I now have a wait list.

To volunteer or for more information, please contact Carl Wilson at:   To make donations, please contact the church office at 512-346-3124.
