Food Pantry Weekly, 03Jun2015

Greetings Foodies!

It was an evening of firsts. With the unofficial beginning of Summer now past and temperatures in the 90’s we opened the fellowship hall at 4:00 to those already waiting. Kit was set up and did check-in there also, and Stella had cold lemonade and water and snacks set up so the first 35 or so families did not have to wait outside in the heat. Stella had some good conversation with clients, and several expressed their gratitude. All-in-all it went well, and we’ll continue this through the hot weather. Thanks so much to Kit and Stella for making this happen!

Also tonight, two clients enthusiastically agreed to give me on-camera testimonials about their experience with the food pantry. Assuming they don’t get cold feet before next Wednesday, these video’s will be used to tell our congregation and friends more about what we do and how it impacts those in need. I’m excited about this!

Everyone please please please look at our volunteer opportunities below, even if you are currently a food pantry volunteer. And please pray for all our clients and their families.

Volunteer opportunities

(1) Work with an experienced volunteer to pick up food at Capital Area Food Bank on Tuesdays at 11:00AM and take to Food Pantry. Total time from Covenant area will be about 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM. This job requires the ability to lift up to 30 lbs and load these items into a vehicle, then unload into the Food Pantry.

(2) Urgent!  Beginning July 1st, according to USDA and CAFB rules, we will restart our client registration process. Every client, including existing ones, must be reregistered. For several weeks, we’ll need six additional volunteers to sit with clients, ask a few simple questions and fill out a form. Two of the six should be bilingual (English-Spanish). It’s very simple, and training will be provided. If you can help, even for a week or two, please let me know. We need you!!!

(3) Ready to step your ministry up a notch?  Call me. 512-940-3975.  Already a food pantry volunteer? Call me. I’ve got a couple of things I’d love to talk with you about. It will be a no-risk, no-pressure conversation, just something to think about.

To make donations, please contact the church office at 512-346-3124.
