It was a great day at the Food Pantry! And another busy night, with 94 households served. The last client was still in the pantry at 7:30. That’s not our preference since some of our volunteers have been there since early morning, and many others have put in a full day at their jobs before coming. And then they stay to clean up, put up, straighten up; but no one seems to complain. That’s just how our volunteers are.
Our lottery system for determining the order of entry into the pantry has been in use now for seven weeks and it seems to be a success. I give credit to our new Food Pantry Board for pushing me to implement this. I’ll admit, I was reluctant. But even our clients tell us that they like it. It removes the incentive to arrive earlier and earlier to be one of the first in line, and it removes the frequent contention about who cut in front of whom. It’s extra work, but worth it!
