Food Pantry Weekly, 18Nov2015

For the past six months or so I’ve been predicting that we would have a 100-family week before this year ended. Just last week, in this Weekly, I “forecast” having 113. Well, I was too conservative. Last night it was truly an incredible evening at the food pantry. We served 125 households.  Dan, our faithful registrar, registered 37 households, meaning they were either first-time-ever attenders or at least have not come since July 01, the beginning of our annual registration cycle. Dan said a common theme for this group is that they had lost their job and are seeking employment. But maybe the most incredible thing about last night was not what happened, but what didn’t happen. We didn’t run out of food. It was the story of Elijah and the widow at Zarephath, in microcosm.  And the volunteers were not overwhelmed by the onslaught. Everyone faithfully did their tasks with smiles on their faces as usual. And we weren’t there all night! The last client was through by about 7:15. After four and a half years of doing this, I’m still amazed at what happens. God is truly awesome and so are His children who have hearts for those in need!
Blessings to you all, and please pray for all those who come to us for help,
Carl
