It was another great night at the food pantry. Including a couple of individuals who came for assistance during the week, we helped 79 households with good nourishing food, which is about our average these days. Wednesday morning, while volunteers were busy unloading, weighing, sorting and organizing produce and bakery items, a neighbor dropped by with right-out-of-the-ground salad greens and okra from the Adelphi Community Garden. Beautiful stuff! Now I’m expecting God to bring more and more of that sort of fresh food to keep up with the need. You might say that we have a “growing” need! Hint-hint all you gardeners!
Mindy Vasquez of Capital Area Food Bank’s Social Services Outreach team was with us tonight and had lengthy one-on-one sessions with several of our clients, answering questions and assisting them make application for SNAP (food stamp) benefits. Mindy plans to spend another evening with us in October. She also said she received very positive comments by the clients about the work we do here at Covenant! I knew this was the case, but it’s always nice to here it from someone else. Way to go volunteers! You make it all happen!
Please pray for all our clients.
