Food Pantry Weekly

Greetings Foodies,

It occurred to me this week that I frequently praise and give thanks for our volunteers, and I’ll continue to do that I’m sure. But I don’t know if I’ve ever expressed gratitude to all those who support the food pantry through their monetary gifts. Practically speaking, this group of supporters is every bit as important as the rest of us, for every week we purchase food. So, to all you who give to the Food Pantry -Thanks! Your gifts are enabling God’s work to be done here at Covenant.

After 31 months of food-pantrying, it is still often difficult for us to truly put ourselves in a Food Pantry client’s shoes. I was drawn into that place tonight. As we were hearing prayer requests, one lady expressed, with tears flowing, that this was not how it was supposed to be. She was not supposed to be at a food pantry. She has an MBA and a nice house. But then she was injured and unable to work. She now has a 20-hour low-paying job and next month expects to lose her house. It vividly reminded me how precarious our comfortable situations really are. One big domino falls – health, job, whatever – and all of a sudden everything collapses. We must humbly give thanks to God every day of our lives.

Blessings & Peace to you all,

Carl
