Youth ministry is more than just Bible study and games. At Covenant we strive to have a well-rounded youth ministry that reaches out to the community, provides spiritual growth experiences for teenagers, and builds a strong foundation for Christian friendships. EDUCATION & SUNDAY SCHOOL

YOUTH EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES

Learning about our Christian heritage through studying the Bible is the basis for our Sunday School. From the epic stories of the Old Testament to the Gospel of the New Testament, we believe that the Bible is the Word of God. Setting aside time each week to study the Scriptures with our peers is essential to our growth as Christians. For an up-to-date and itemized listing of current classes and activities see the Youth Bulletin Board located outside the Youth Sunday School Class Room.

Education & Sunday School Classes 10:00 am

Junior High Sunday School is for youths 6th grade through 8th grade level - Room 220A

The Senior High Class is for 9th graders through 12th grade - Room 217

Confirmation gives youths the opportunity to explore their Christian faith and prepares them to make their vows to follow God. Classes meet during Sunday School Hour in the Spring from Palm Sunday through Pentecost. This course is for any age youth (6th grade-12th grade) who has not been confirmed in the church.

Bible Study at 6:00 PM Wednesday Night for boys and girls.

United Methodist Youth Fellowship – Meets Sundays after the second service for lunch and a time of games until 2:00.

Project Worship—Meets Sundays from 2:00-3:00. We rehearse skits and choral music for use in worship services as well as prepare for a Dinner Theater in the Spring.

Youth Praise Band – meets Sundays from 3:00-4:30. We rehearse contemporary praise music to lead worship at Wednesday night Youth services and on Youth Sundays.

Wednesday Night Worship—meets on Wednesdays from 6:00-8:30. The first hour is Bible Study followed by 30 minutes of Worship and sharing. Then from 7:30-8:30 The youth play games.

Mission Trips & Special Projects—The youth go on a mission trip to a nearby community each summer. And are always looking for opportunities to serve here in Austin.

Sunday Schedule

12:30-1:00- we eat lunch together after the 11:15 Sunday service.

1:00 - 2:00 - we hang out in our “Loft” or play games outside.

2:00-3:00- Project Worship is a time where youth prepare to be involved in the worship service through drama, music, dance, and art. We also perform a dinner theater every spring.

3:00 - 4:30 - At band practice we are learning to lead praise and worship music. Guitars, drums, keyboard, bass, cello and of course voices are the instruments we use, and we are always looking for more.

Wednesday Schedule

5:30-6:00 eat dinner with the church family at Meet and Eat

6:00-7:00 Boys and Girls Bible Studies

7:00-7:30 Worship and sharing

7:30-8:30 Games

MISSIONS

Youth Missions

Every year our youth raise money and support to go out into a nearby community to provide help and encouragement. The Senior High youth attend U.M.A.R.M.Y. which stands for United Methodist Action Reach-out Mission for Youth. We build wheelchair ramps and make house repairs. The Junior High Youth work with organizations to help the homeless,the abused, and the neglected.

Youth Ministry takes lots of parent participation and volunteer support. Some of our current volunteers are Wayne Jacobs, Claire Whisenhunt, Carol Hillis, Cheri Weaver, Joe Nipper, Nancy Minchew, Carl Wilson, Bob Weeks, Dr. Larry James, Eileen Brown and Dana Maxey.
