Vacation Bible School Update
The Children's Ministry Team has been working hard on how to best offer Vacation Bible School at Covenant this summer. While we love the community and fellowship that our VBS offers, for the health and safety of everyone we are finding alternative ways to do our week of VBS.
We will be offering digital content and a box of take-home materials so kids can enjoy crafts, games, snacks, music, Bible stories and more! Register kids and volunteers here.
Sunday School at Covenant UMC is a warm, educational environment for children to learn Biblical stories and values, and to grow in faith and love. The combined Sunday School class for elementary ages meets during the Sunday School hour at 10:10am, and also offers younger learners a music and singing time.
Child, Youth and Vulnerable Adult Safety Policy
In response to God's call to care for the vulnerable, Covenant UMC is committed to the well-being of every person entrusted to its care. All volunteers are background checked and go through training set forth by the Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. You can view our church's policy, as well as learn about the volunteer certification steps below.
Children are a blessing at Covenant
We’re blessed to have children worship and play with us, and we recognize that they are called to work for God’s kingdom in their own special ways. Therefore, we seek to nurture their spiritual formation at each stage of their development as we involve them in worship, build their understanding, and support families.
Children in Worship
Children of all ages are always welcome in our worship services. "Quiet Bags" are available at the back of the Sanctuary with scarves, finger puppets, and other sensory play items.
During the 9:00a.m. and the 11:15 a.m. services, the children are invited to come forward for a “Time with Young Disciples” to learn the Sunday’s message in a fun and accessible way. At the 9:00a.m. service, children are invited to "Music and Worship" to continue praising God in their special way.
Children may serve as acolytes beginning in the third grade. Acolytes assist in worship by lighting and extinguishing the candles, taking up the offering, and assisting with communion. Children wishing to serve are trained and mentored.
Infants and Toddlers
Children are always welcome in our worship services. However, parents often need some options. Our nursery staff is CPR and Safe Sanctuary certified, and offers loving childcare for children 0-4 years during our worship services on Sunday mornings and during special services. This nursery is located down the hallway from the church kitchen.
A soundproof room at the back of the sanctuary, known as the Cry Room, is designated as a retreat for parents with small children during the worship services. The sound system and large windows allow parents to continue to enjoy the service while children are less restricted.
