Director of Family Ministries - Half-time


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate and oversee the children and youth ministries at Covenant UMC. Ensure that the programming is displaying the love of Christ and nurturing spiritual growth in children, youth, and families. 

 

About Covenant UMC: 
Covenant UMC is a Christ-centered congregation in North Austin serving as a community called to nourish. We value great Christian friendship, diversity, and serving together. We have about 20 active children and 10 active youth and many adults serving in ministry with children and youth.

 

Compensation: 
Yearly salary of $15,000-$25,000, based on experience. Other positions are open at Covenant UMC so there is a possibility to add responsibilities.

 

Ministry Duties:
Work in cooperation with Children’s Ministry and Youth Ministry Committees in maintaining current programs and in planning and implementing new programs.

 

Children’s Ministries (duties included but not limited to):

  1. Direct and actively participate in Children’s Sunday School (currently by Zoom), Time for Young Disciples, Children’s Church, Children’s Choir, and Vacation Bible School and other major children’s events throughout the year.

  2. Recruit and train children’s Sunday School teachers as well as Vacation Bible School volunteers. Coordinate scheduling of teachers and ordering of curriculum.

  3. Develop and work a plan for increasing the number of children in the Children’s Ministries.

  4. Serve as a resource person for all the children’s ministries at Covenant UMC.

  5. Provide pastoral care and visitation to all children of Covenant UMC.

  6. Recruit, train and schedule childcare workers for the Covenant Nursery.

  7. Serve as contact person for emergencies in the Covenant Nursery.

  8. Lead Children’s Ministry Committee meetings in partnership with the Committee Chair.

  9. Attend continuing education classes and quarterly Rio Texas Conference Faith Leaders meeting in order to bring new ideas to the Children’s Ministry.

  10. Supervise the compliance of the Child Safety Policy adopted by Covenant UMC. Oversee certification and compliance of all Children’s Ministry volunteers through Trusted Con Confianza and Safe Gatherings.

  11. Participate in called staff meetings, church council meetings and attend the yearly staff retreat.

  12. Prepare articles for the bulletin insert, website, eNews, and Facebook as needed.

Youth Ministry:

  1. Help coordinate youth opportunities in church events.

  2. Help coordinate youth trips.

  3. Participate in youth committee meetings.

  4. Serve as youth ministry liaison to staff of the church.

  5. Serve as a logistical resource person for youth ministry.

  6. Coordinate volunteers for the Youth Ministry committee.

    

General Duties:

  • Attend continuing education classes and quarterly Rio Texas Conference Faith Leaders meeting in order to bring new ideas to your ministry.

  • Participate in called staff meetings, church council meetings and attend the yearly staff retreat.

  • Prepare articles for the bulletin insert, website, eNews and Facebook as needed.

  • Other duties as requested by the Church Board and Pastor.

3rd Grade Bibles

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent related experience

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
Must have good organizational and communication skills and be an enthusiastic team player. Needs computer proficiency with word processing, PowerPoint, spreadsheets, social media, and other software programs.
